Let the 2014 reading challenge begin! :-)
Posts tagged books.
Last September (overdue post bcos my laptop’s charger died on me and the pics are there), one of the things in our list got crossed out!
During the start of the book fair, Twinny and I got caught up with lots of school and org works. So right after our mother org’s team building (the only free time we got), Twinny and I dropped by at SMX Convention Center where the 34th Manila International Book Fair is being held and as what Twinny said, quoting Einstein, "It takes 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration." because despite of the time, lack of transpo, rain and not enough moohlahs for books (yes. that’s why i went home with no haul </3 ), we still bothered to go. If not, we will have to wait for another year again. So basically, we went there for our bucketlist and to attend a seminar on how to publish your own book but unfortuantely, we were late so we ended up watching our hearts fall out of our chests until it shattered into pieces.
Since it is the day before the book fair’s closing, the whole convention is jam-packed! Everyone’s busy haggling discounted titles from children’s books, comics, textbooks, up to novels. (though it is not obvious in the photo below)
We also visited a booth that houses lots of Filipiniana stuffs. What Twinny and I love the most are these national hero busts!
Went also at OMF Literature, the publisher of some of the famous inspirational books.
And at OMF, I found the bible that I was searching for years now but it costs 1k+. Again, my heart was hammered.
"I have not broken your heart… you have broken it; and in breaking it, you have broken mine." I believe, this is the book fair’s quote for Twinny and I. Haha!
Of course, who would forgot to visit Fullybooked? All their books are in 20% discount but unfortunately we didn’t went there to buy books, we went there to break our hearts.
Saw Keri Smith’s book that I am not familiar yet and Twinny and I promised to buy one for our future travels! ♥
The elegant booth design of REX Bookstore.
We still tried our best (and luck) to catch the seminar but sadly, they have their doors closed when we got there (we searched so hard for the venue not knowing it is all there… at the side. </3).
But it is as if the universe doesn’t want to waste our quest, so it gave us a consolation! Little did we know, there’s a cosplay event happening at the upper level of the convention. Our hearts suddenly leaped with joy when we saw a sea of humanity in costumes. It is my first time attending (or seeing) a cosplay event because I am not really fond of them but hey, it was awesome! We even saw Alodia Gosengfiao (no photo because she passed by so quickly and she has lots of folks with her), a Khaleesi and Khal Drogo and the One Piece crew! ♥
Look at these two litol cuties!
All my cup of care for Kuya who has a post card of free hugs with him but there’s no people hugging him. Aww! (yes, we are thick-faced like that to capture a photo without hugging. hah!) And and and! THE MARIO BROTHERS!!
After SMX, we headed to the mall to canvass for another thing in our bucketlist; Twinny’s boater hat.
And the rest is history.
“So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.”
― Mitch Albom, Tuesdays With Morrie
Enjoying the last days of vacation.
I’ve been cynical about online giveaways when I experienced this. (Yes, I am the former elalalalalove) I gave my mailing address on time which I believe what others also did but months passed, our prize (books) isn’t shifted. I tumblr asked the owner of the blog and even messaged him in facebook about it but he is not replying.
Second instance is that I joined a book giveaway wherein a blogger told that reblog “how many times you want” but then, she didn’t used random org so basically, the effort of reblogging many times is just pure nonsense.
However, my faith went back when Fullybooked held a birthday book giveaway in twitter wherein you’ll just have to tweet them the best advice that you get in your life. Luckily, I won! I claimed the prize earlier at Fullybooked Gateway! Such a happy cookie. :-)
